Your all-time favorite music

Posted by Xarnor - October 6th, 2011

There are plenty of "wat is ur fav song" threads on the BBS, but they always get locked. I could always browse around people's userpages and check out their Favorites section, but it seems a lot of us don't even have any non-Newgrounds favorites listed there.

I am always interested in good music, and when someone has decided that a particular song or artists is one of their all-time favorites, I take it as a pretty good indication that there is something positive and unique about this song or artist. Since I'm shit at discovering music for myself, I am asking you.

So, I don't want to know what your current favorite band, song, or artist is. I want to know what artists you will ALWAYS have in your library, the ones who you know you'll be a fan of for as long as you listen to music. Also I would like to know a song or two that you have found yourself coming back to and listening for the 100th time, and still enjoying it.

Just to get things started, here are a few favorites of my own:

Song - Innocente by Delerium. Used to listen to this all the time back when I was/thought I was in love, now it fits better and I can appreciate the musical qualities without constantly thinking about my "other half" who was unfortunately living in Canada at the time because her bitch of a mom got a divorce and you know what, leave it to me to give up my emotional control for the one girl who I'll never see again, and who also happened to take after her mom. Damn it! Haha.

Song - Radiance by Lashmush. One of the songs I had when I first got an iPod. I listened to this song quite a bit, back when my entire music library consisted of 50 some Newgrounds songs and a few of my brother's CDs. As a result, it is linked with many memories, some of which for some reason are the strongest memories I have of my earlier years.

Artist - The Project Hate MCMXCIX. Not necessarily the type of music you would expect a Christian-raised, Bible-believing kid to listen to, but I cannot and will not deny the fact that every song of TPH is the sum of every musical characteristic that I crave to hear in music, other than the lyrics themselves, but they fit the music, so I don't mind them. TPH is a huge collection of simple&effective musical attributes, masterfully crafted into complex music by a truly inspired composer and musician. I can easily understand why you might not enjoy their music, but I still feel kind of sorry for people who can't enjoy TPH.

Newgrounds, name some of your favorites, and why!

Song - Stone in Focus
One of the greatest ambient songs ever IMO, absolutely amazing to listen to when I just want to chill.

Artist - Aphex Twin
Creator of above song, he's such a weird guy who does pretty much whatever he wants when it comes to music (not always a good thing), but ultimately he can produce really beautiful tracks if he wants to.

Those two would have to be my top favourites at the moment.

Aphex Twin, one of the best in ambient. I'd forgotten about his music. Ambient is so good.. chilling out is just a great thing to do in life. I've never found it easy to find replay-able ambient songs though. I never end up coming back to them to listen again. Amongst the Ruins by Delerium is definitely my favorite ambient song.

Try "Concerning the UFO sightings" by Sufjan Stevens.

I was skeptical when I read the name haha, but I must say, this is very nice. Unfortunately for me, I always get annoyed by higher-pitched male vocals. I don't know why.

Killer Queen by Queen and Bohemian rhapsody.

So what exactly do you like about this song? The music is great itself with a nice swing to it, but the vocalist annoys the hell out of me. Probably because I hate gays, so it's not exactly my musical preferences getting in the way I suppose.

Why are you homophobic

Yes, now let's get back on topic here, what exactly do you like about Queen?
